Consider this a changing of the guard -- or odds -- in Vegas.
For the first time since 2001, an NFL team priced at +5000 or higher before the season started will take home the Super Bowl trophy, as the Seattle Seahawks play the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX tonight.
The Seahawks (-225) are currently predicted to win Super Bowl 60, per the latest BetMGM stats. The Patriots are +190 as they look to win the seventh Super Bowl title in team history.
No preseason favorite made the Super Bowl this year, as the Buffalo Bills lost to the Denver Broncos in overtime in the Divisional Playoffs. The Baltimore Ravens lost the AFC North title in the final game of the season due to a missed field goal, while Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes' Kansas City Chiefs missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014, after having appeared in the last three Super Bowl championships.
Seattle had closed at +6000 and New England closed at +10000 before the season started. The teams are relatively evenly matched for tonight's game though oddsmakers give the edge to the Seahawks, who will be looking for their second Super Bowl title (they won their first Vince Lombardi Trophy in 2014). BetMGM also pegs Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold (+115) as the favorite to win Super Bowl MVP. Patriots quarterback Drake Maye (+230) trails behind for the MVP award.
Of course, a number of celebrities are getting in on the betting action. Drake posted a photo on Instagram showing a betting slip for $1 million bet on the Patriots to win. There are also prop bets on who will appear with Bad Bunny during his Halftime Show performance.
No team with preseason odds worse than 40-1 has won the Super Bowl since 2001, when -- coincidentally? -- the Patriots defeated the then-St. Louis Rams at Super Bowl XXXVI. Pats fans will no doubt be hoping that the odds are once again in their favor tonight.
